Dealing with an incoming call
The port monitor deals with an incoming call request as follows:
-
If possible, the caller ID
(the telephone number of the calling system)
is determined.
NOTE:
Not all modems implement caller ID. In this release
of UnixWare the caller ID is set to NULL.
For ISDN adapters, the caller ID may
or may not be set depending on the operating policy of
your telephone company.
-
The
call type
is determined.
If a match was found in /etc/ics/Autoacts, then
the service to invoke has also been determined.
NOTE:
Modems do not have a consistent way of obtaining the
call type. In this release of UnixWare the call type is always set to
acu.
-
If a service has not yet been determined, then the port monitor checks
its administrative file
(/etc/saf/pmtag/_pmtab in the case of
ttymon(1M))
for any services specified for the port, where pmtag
is the name of that instance of the port monitor, for example,
``ttymon1''.
(See
``Adding a service''
for more details.)
-
If a service has been determined, then
call filtering
is performed (if enabled).
-
If the service is auto, then
call service lookup
is performed to determine which service to invoke.
-
The appropriate service is invoked.
