Using disks, diskettes, CD-ROM and tapes
You can work on files stored on any medium for which your computer
has the appropriate driver. The main storage media are:
Hard disks-
A hard disk is normally installed in your computer. You can always see the files
and directories on the hard disk.
Floppy diskettes-
Floppy diskettes must be inserted in the diskette drive
on your computer. If you are using UNIX, you must mount the diskette
filesystem to view the files on it. See
``Mounting and unmounting filesystems''
for information about mounting filesystems.
CD-ROMs-
CD-ROMs must be inserted in the CD-ROM drive
on your computer. If you are using UNIX, you must mount the CD-ROM
filesystem to view the files on it. See
``Mounting and unmounting filesystems''
for information about mounting filesystems.
Tape cassettes-
You normally copy files from tape cassettes before you use them, or
copy files to tape to archive them. You can use several special programs to
do this. See
``Backup and Restore''
in the online documentation
for details of the backup and restore services provided with UnixWare.
