Introduction to using the system

Logging in

One of the security features of UNIX systems is the requirement that users identify themselves at the beginning of a session with their login names and passwords. Your system administrator should have provided you with a login name and initial password.

To log in:

  1. Make sure that your computer displays the login screen.

You may need to switch your computer on and wait until it displays the screen. Watch for any messages that ask you to take action to continue.

  2. Enter your login name.

  3. Enter your password.

Your password does not appear when you type it.

When you have entered your password correctly, the desktop is displayed.
