ypwhich(1nis)

ypwhich -- return name of NIS server or map master

Synopsis

ypwhich [-d [ypdomain]] [hostname]

ypwhich [-d ypdomain] -m [mname]

ypwhich -x

Description

The ypwhich command tells which server supplies Network Information Service (NIS) services to the NIS client, or which is the master server for a NIS map.

Usage

If invoked without arguments, ypwhich gives the NIS server for the local machine.

If hostname is specified, that machine is queried to find out which NIS server it is using.

Refer to ypfiles(4nis) and ypserv(1Mnis) for an overview of the NIS service.

Options

ypwhich takes the following options:

-d [ypdomain]
Use ypdomain instead of the default domain.

-m mname
Find the master NIS server for a map. No hostname can be specified with -m. mname can be a mapname, or a alias for a map. When mname is omitted, produce a list available maps.

-x
Display map aliases. This lists the aliases (mnames) the command knows of, and indicates the map name associated with each alias.
