Administering user accounts

Limiting reuse of UIDs

In all security profiles, a UID can be reused (recycled) after 12 months have elapsed. To adjust this limit, change the value of the UIDAGE parameter in the /etc/default/userdel file using the System Defaults Manager or the defadm(1M) command:

defadm userdel UIDAGE=n

Here n is the number of months before a UID can be reassigned. A value of -1 prevents reassignment at any subsequent date; a value of 0 allows immediate reassignment.

NOTE: Aging is performed independently for each UID, so any change affects only UIDs that are subsequently deleted.
