The Enhanced Event Logging System

Manually starting EELS

EELS is started automatically each time the system changes to init state 2; usually this is all you need to know. However, if you modify the EELS configuration file eels_config(4eels) you have to restart the EELS daemon. Take the following steps to restart the EELS daemon:

  1. Log in as root.

  2. Enter the following command to stop and then restart EELS:

    /etc/init.d/eelsrc restart

    The following message is displayed:

Shutting down the Enhanced Event Logging System (EELS)
Starting the Enhanced Event Logging System (EELS)

NOTE: While EELS is shut down, any messages that are generated by any of the log sources are ignored. It is good practice to always try and restart EELS as soon as possible after shutting it down.
