Using EELS

Remote logging

EELS provides a mechanism to enable messages that originate from one host to be logged (or stored) in a central EELS database on some other host. For the purposes of this description, the host that originates the messages will be referred to as the ``originating host'', and the host on which the messages are stored will be referred to as the ``destination host''.

Before any messages are sent to the destination host for logging, they are first filtered (if a filter block was defined on the originating host). The remote logging mechanism is illustrated below.

Remote logging

To customize remote logging, you must edit /etc/default/eels on both the originating and the destination host.
