System directories and files

Directories in /lib

This section describes the directories under the /lib directory. /lib contains public libraries, daemons, and architecture-dependent databases. The /lib directory is part of the root filesystem.

/lib/acct

This directory contains executables used by the process accounting subsystem.

/lib/audio

This directory contains files and directories used by the SCOadmin configuration manager for the audio system.

/lib/drf

The /lib/drf directory contains files, scripts, and binaries required to create the Emergency Recovery diskettes.

/lib/dstime

The /lib/dstime directory contains files and executables that schedule an at job to implement the change to and from Daylight Savings Time.

/lib/event

This directory contains mouse information files.

/lib/font

This directory contains information about fonts, used by troff(1bsd).

/lib/fs

This directory contains filesystem-specific executables.

/lib/hpnp

The /lib/hpnp directory contains shell scripts to install and configure an HPNP printer (one that is directly attached to the network and supports the HP proprietary printing protocol). The configuration scripts allow the server to be set up as a boot server for the printer and to configure an LP device to the printer.

/lib/iconv

This directory contains codeset-to-codeset mapping data files used by the iconv(3C) library functions and the iconv(1) command.

/lib/keyboard

This directory contains files that describe the keyboard mappings for each locale supported in UnixWare.

/lib/libp

This directory hierarchy contains built-with-profiling libraries searched for by cc(1) and CC(1C++). See also /usr/ccs/lib/libp.

/lib/locale

The /lib/locale directory contains the database files for each locale supported in UnixWare.

/lib/lp

This directory contains the directories and LP-specific utilities used in processing requests to the LP Print Service.

/lib/macros

This directory contains nroff(1bsd) and troff(1bsd) macro package files.

/lib/mail

This directory contains directories and files used in processing mail.

/lib/mail/metamail

This directory contains directories and files used exclusively by mailx(1) in processing multimedia mail messages.

/lib/mail/surrcmd

This directory contains programs necessary for mail surrogate processing.

/lib/mailx

This directory contains the English help files for mailx(1) and the default mailx.rc file (users can override this by placing a .mailxrc file in their home directory).

/lib/nls

The /lib/nls directory exists only for compatibility with SCO OpenServer.

/lib/sa

The /lib/sa directory contains files used by the sadc(1M) and sar(1M) commands.

/lib/scoadmin

The /lib/scoadmin directory is the root of the installation repository for the SCOadmin management object hierarchy. SCOadmin is a series of management applications for configuring and maintaining your system, and can be run in graphical or character mode. See scoadmin(4) for further details.

/lib/scohelp

The /lib/scohelp directory contains all the SCOhelp (online documentation) system files, organized by language.

/lib/spell

The /lib/spell directory contains files used by the spell(1) command.

/lib/tape

The /lib/tape directory contains a link to the /bin/tapecntl command.

/lib/tcl7.6

The /lib/tcl7.6 directory contains files used by Tcl release tcl-7.6 (the Tool Command Language).

/lib/tclX7.6.0

The /lib/tclX7.6.0 directory contains files used by Extended Tcl release tclx-7.6.0 (an extension to tcl-7.6 containing access to POSIX system calls, extended debugging, and file handling and scanning capabilities).

/lib/term

This directory contains pre-curses simple terminal data files.

/lib/tmac

This directory contains nroff(1bsd) and troff(1bsd) macro package files.

/lib/uucp

This directory contains uucp configuration data.

/lib/vtcl

The /lib/vtcl directory contains files used by SCO Visual Tcl (1vtcl) commands, which provide support for creating graphical applications, such as SCOadmin.
