A visual clue showing that an object is selected.

Selected text is usually shown in reverse video. Objects or icons can be identified as selected in a number of ways.

When a list of text objects appears after a window opens, always have one list item selected. Depending upon the user task, the selected object can be:

• the top-most item in the list

• the list object that the user selected the last time they entered the screen

• a system-defined default

• the object reflecting the current state
