Default value
Related: Default button; Default action; Push button
The default value is the setting users would most likely want in a given
situation.
-
Present default values whenever possible and when they
make sense to use. Defaults provide a layering of the
interface that accommodates the more novice user and makes
it easier for expert users by allowing quick movement
through the displayed screen (reduces cognitive load).
-
Default should be changeable by the user when desired.
-
Provide a mechanism with an Options menu item for user
sites to set their own prescribed defaults to the client.
SCOadmin clients should be consistent in offering this
default setting mechanism and place it in the same general
location (Options menu or Options button).
