State transitions
The Transport Interface has two components:
-
the library routines that provide the transport services to users
-
the state transition rules that define the sequence in
which the transport routines may be invoked
The state transition rules can be found later
in the state tables in
``State transitions''.
The state tables define the legal sequence of library
calls based on state information and the handling of events.
These events include user-generated library calls, as well as
provider-generated event indications.
NOTE:
Any user of the Transport Interface should completely understand
all possible state transitions before writing software using the
interface.
