Troubleshooting

DMI processes not running
When the DMI Service Provider is running successfully, there should be one instance of the process dmispd (DMI Service Provider daemon) and one instance of the process oncsp (the ONC-RPC daemon).

If the command dmi start does not start the service provider successfully; that is, the processes are not as described above, then reboot the system.

DMI processes not stopping
If, after issuing a dmi stop command, either the dmispd or oncsp process is still running 5 minutes later, then reboot the system. Do not use:

kill -9 dmispd_pid

This command, in which dmispd_pid is the process ID of dmispd, will kill both processes but it will also leave shared memory segments and semaphores lying around. This will prevent dmispd starting successfully again.

Message logging
Messages logged by the DMI Service Provider are found in /var/adm/syslog. These can be identified by searching for the strings ``dmispd'' and ``oncsp''.
