IEEE arithmetic
This subtopic provides the
details
of floating point representation, the environment,
and exception handling.
Most users need not be concerned with the details
of the floating point environment.
NOTE:
Programs ported from pre-System V Release 4 environments will now proceed
using computations with diagnostic values or floating point ``infinities.''
NOTE:
The floating point subsystems of the Intel386 microprocessor
are based on the
Standard for Binary Floating-Point Arithmetic,
ANSI/IEEE Standard 754-1985.
For more information about this standard, write to
IEEE Service Center,
445 Hoes Lane,
