On networks with Internet access, you can use NTP, the Network Time Protocol, to synchronize clocks on different hosts. NTP synchronizes clocks to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the international time standard. A set of NTP servers, located on and accessible via the Internet, provide NTP services to machines with Internet access. It is also possible to use NTP without Internet access but with diminished accuracy.
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) has been updated to Version 4.1.1 from http://www.ntp.org. This release maintains compatibility with NTP 2.x and 3.x, while support for NTP 1.x has been removed. See the NTP documentation. In particular, see the NTP Version 4 Release Notes and the Quick Start.
