Restricting access to the master server
For security reasons,
you may want to restrict access to the new master NIS server
to a smaller set of users than those defined in its existing /etc/passwd file.
To do this,
first make sure the existing passwd file
does not contain the NIS escape entry ``+''.
Then, perform one of the following:
-
If you need to remove many users,
edit the master server's /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files
to remove the entries for the undesirable users.
Then run the
creatiadb(1M)
command
to update the Identification and Authentication (I&A) database.
-
If you need to remove only a few users,
run the
userdel(1M)
command
to remove the entries for each undesirable user
(the Identification and Authentication (I&A) database will be automatically updated).
