Configuring the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)

Advanced protocol options

The following options control the negotiation of the IP, CCP, and LCP protocols during the configuration phase of establishing a PPP connection. Once configured, these values are unique to a particular protocol that you configure for a bundle or link device:

Maximum number of failures
The maximum number of NAKs that can be sent without an ACK being sent before PPP assumes that configuration has failed.

Maximum number of configuration retries
The maximum number of retries allowed for configuration requests.

Maximum number of termination retries
The maximum number of retries allowed for termination requests.

Restart timer period
The time allowed for responses to configuration-request and termination-request packets.

Executable called on interface state change
The pathname of a program (or script) that will be run if a PPP interface is brought up, dropped, added, or deleted. This program can be used to add or delete the default router from the routing table, or to change the definition of which DNS servers should be used. The default program is /usr/lib/ppp/psm/ipexec.sh. See ppptalk(1M) for more information.

NOTE: This option is only displayed for advanced configuration of the IP protocol.
