Setting up the test machines
The test laboratory for network adapter drivers
must include:
-
At least two machines,
designated ``master'' and ``slave''.
-
The device being tested with its associated driver
must be installed on the master machine.
The slave machine must have networking enabled,
but can use the device and driver being tested
or a device and driver that is known to work.
-
These machines should not be production machines,
because driver errors uncovered during testing
may destroy data on the systems.
-
They should be installed on a private local area net
that is not part of a larger network setup;
the traffic generated by the automated tests
may cause network errors
and will degrade performance on a larger network.
Install the drivers to be used for testing
before installing the test suite package,
so that the test suites are configured
to use the driver being tested.
