The Device Query Interface (DQI) is an SCO OpenServer 5 feature that provides a consistent and reliable mechanism for user-level programs to determine which devices are attached to the system. ScoAdmin uses this facility to to provide the system administrator with information about devices attached to the system for use when performing system management tasks. The SNMP Manager (Simple Network Management Protocol) client uses this facility to provide a network administrator with information about devices attached to a remote system.
ScoAdmin accesses driver configuration information through the driver.dat file under the /etc/conf/pack.d/<drivername> directory. This file contains standard information about all the types of devices that can be handled by the driver. On SVR5 systems, the driver.dat file is populated by the Resource Manager.
