Daemons associated with drivers

A driver's DSP file (see ``DSP (Driver Software Package)'') can install and start a daemon that is associated with the driver. idinstall (or the SCO OpenServer 5 equivalent, idinstall(ADM)) allows you to specify an Rc file that is installed into the /etc/rc*.d hierarchy or an Init(DSP/4dsp) file that is installed into inittab(4). These facilities enable you to specify which runstates should initialize the daemon and provide some rough control over when it is initialized.

You can also have the postinstall script add an executable script with an appropriate and unique name into the /etc/rc*.d hierarchy.

Mechanisms are not currently available to start and stop daemons when dynamically loadable kernel modules (see ``Dynamically-loadable kernel modules (DLKM)'') are loaded and unloaded.
