56k modem support
This release provides a standard generic 56Kbps modem dialer for
use with 56k modems. As the dialer is generic, specific vendor or model
autodetection is not supported.
Use of a 56k modem does not guarantee a 56k connection. The
actual connection speed depends on a number of factors:
-
the equipment at your telecommunications company or internet service provider
-
whether your hardware supports this speed
-
the quality of the telephone line
-
the defaults set in the modem
NOTE:
In some cases it may only be the receive speed that will exceed
33.6Kbps. Therefore connecting to another 56k modem could result
in a maximum send and receive speed of 33.6Kbps.
